Well, ladies

I went out on Saturday and I am still thinking about what happened on the walk home.

Not the night. The night was great. Thai food with people I had not seen in months, two glasses of wine, sticky rice, the whole thing. I said yes even though I had a 7am client because I always say yes and I never learn and that is a different letter.

The part I am thinking about is that I walked home. Twenty minutes, maybe. I did not plan it. My phone was dead and I could not call a car and the restaurant was close enough that walking was the obvious move.

I got home feeling completely normal. Not bloated. Not heavy. Not that 11pm food coma where you lie on the couch and your body is furious with you. Just normal.

Sunday morning I felt fine. Awake on time. No drag.

I thought it was the food. Then I thought it was the wine (only two glasses, very responsible for me). Then I remembered that I have been seeing this thing everywhere online about walking after meals and how it does something to your blood sugar and I had been ignoring it because TikTok wellness content makes me want to throw my phone. 😂

But I looked into it and the science is not TikTok science. There is real research showing that a short walk after eating, ten minutes is enough, helps your muscles pull glucose out of your blood faster. Your blood sugar spike is lower and it comes down sooner. You do not feel that crash. You do not get the heavy dead feeling at 9pm.

This is especially relevant for us. After forty-five, insulin sensitivity starts shifting. Your body does not process a meal the same way it did at thirty. That post-dinner heaviness is not weakness. It is chemistry. And a ten-minute walk interrupts the chemistry before it settles in.

I texted Clare at midnight on Saturday and said I think the walking thing is real. She wrote back "Yes." One word. Midnight. No punctuation. Clare. 🙄

She had already been doing it. Of course she had. She walks after lunch every day apparently, between calls, and she did not mention it because she thought everyone knew. I did not know, Clare. I was busy standing on one leg.

So I have been testing it all week. Ten minutes after dinner, every night. Not a workout. Not even a real walk. Just around the block. Sonia joined me twice and we talked about nothing and it was the best part of both evenings. 🙌

The difference is consistent. The nights I walk I feel lighter going to bed. The nights I skip (Tuesday, because it rained) I feel the food sitting in me for hours.

Ten minutes. After your biggest meal. Walk anywhere. Walk slow if you want. The pace does not matter. The timing does.

Try it tonight after dinner. Just go outside and move for ten minutes. See what happens.
